Reasons to Use Soy
LESS SOOT! Candle soot is the black residue that is left on the jars of paraffin candles. Candle soot may also stain the walls, draperies, furniture, and even the carpets of homes where paraffin candles are frequently burned. Soy wax candles will leave less soot stains on the candle container as long as the wick is kept trimmed. The amount of soot residue is affected by the wick, how closely the wick is kept trimmed and proper air flow/circulation around the candle.
BURNS CLEANER! Working hand in hand with the “Less Soot” benefit, soy candles also burn much cleaner, in general, than paraffin based candles. This means less airborne particles and harmful contaminants that can be caused by burning paraffin candles. Paraffin contains 11 documented toxins, 2 are carcinogenic. Soy wax is non-carcinogenic and does not increase the CO2 level in the atmosphere. The soot that is produced from burning petroleum based candles has been documented to be as harmful as second hand smoke. Soy candles produce about 90% less soot that paraffin candles and are a favorite of environmentally conscious people. Soy candles can last up to 50% longer than paraffin candles. Burn candle for no longer than four hours at a time.
EASY CLEAN UP! If you have ever accidentally spilled paraffin wax, you will appreciate this fact. Soy candle wax can be cleaned with very warm soap and water. Once your soy candle is spent, you can clean the container with warm soapy water and reuse it.
MORE FRAGRANCE! Scented soy candles distribute more fragrance. The incorporation of soybean oil lowers the melting point of the candle, which translates into cooler burning candles and faster scent dispersion. The lower melting point of soy wax results in a larger size of the liquid wax pool around the candle wick. It is from this liquid wax pool that the essential oils evaporate into the atmosphere. Also, would you trust putting your finger in melted paraffin wax? You would be burned! But, you can put your finger in melted Soy Wax and not get burned.
SUPPORTS THE U.S. ECONOMY! The soy beans used to make soy wax are grown right here in the United States. Most paraffin waxes are refined from oil imported from overseas, which does not support the U.S. Economy or American farmers.
The American Lung Association has warned consumers of unhealthy indoor air quality from burning candles containing petroleum byproducts. Soy candles may have a rough or mottled appearance on top. This is normal and does not affect the candle’s performance.
